IPL 2024 Eliminator: Avesh Khan weighs in on Dinesh Karthik’s controversial LBW call – MASHAHER

Avesh Khan said that Dinesh Karthik got the benefit out of the doubt in an LBW call during RR’s IPL 2024 Eliminator on Wednesday, May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In probably his last IPL match, Karthik could have got out for a golden duck, but luck favoured him.

In the third ball of the 15th over, Avesh trapped Karthik in front, after which the on-field umpire gave him out. After RCB took the review, replays showed that there seemed a big gap between bat and pad. Although there was a huge spike on the UltraEdge, the on-field call was overturned.

The Royals were not happy with the decision. It did not cost RR much as Karthik got out after scoring only 11 runs off 13 balls. Avesh said that Karthik got the benefit of the doubt after the third umpire had enough evidence to change the on-field call.

“When you are bowling, emotions are quite high. At that time, every bowler would ask for a review. When it was shown on the big screen, I had some doubt. I think the benefit of the doubt went to DK bhai. The umpires took the right decision,” Avesh said in the post-match press conference.

‘IPL demands a lot of effort’

Avesh had a decent day with the ball after he finished with impressive figures of 4-0-44-3. He got the wickets of Rajat Patidar, Mahipal Lomror and Karthik as RR restricted RCB to 172 for 8. The Royals chased down the target in 19 overs to win the match by 4 wickets. The speedster admitted that playing in a league as big as the IPL can be draining, both mentally and physically.

“Last year when I played for LSG, I had come into the IPL from playing 10 Ranji Trophy games in which I bowled about 320 overs. The body was not responding properly. I was putting in effort but it was not working. As a bowler, you realise this. The IPL demands a lot of effort even though it is a four-over or a 20-over contest. Mental and physical fatigue will be strikingly visible,” Avesh added.

RR will next be up against Pat Cummins’ SRH on Friday, May 24 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
